There’s something special about the mountain bike community—something that goes far beyond bikes, races, or even finish lines. Want to know what the special secret is?

There’s something special about the mountain bike community—something that goes far beyond bikes, races, or even finish lines.

Want to know what the special secret is? It’s the fact that the community is built on shared effort and shared joy. It’s the early mornings and long climbs. It’s the dusty smiles and tired legs. It’s made up of people who show up for the ride, for the adventure, and most importantly for each other. And once you experience it, it has a way of feeling like home.

I’ve found that one of the most powerful things about the mountain bike community is how naturally it welcomes people in. New riders are encouraged. Questions are answered. Advice is offered freely. You don’t have to prove yourself to belong—you just have to show up with a desire to ride. Whether it’s your first time clipping in or your hundredth race season, there’s a shared understanding that we are all here for each other.

This is a community where friendships form quickly, where strangers become teammates, and where support often matters more than speed.

While bikes may bring us together, what keeps us connected is something deeper. Mountain biking is about adventure and discovery—exploring new terrain, pushing personal limits, and finding confidence in the challenge. It’s about celebrating progress, not just results. It’s the quiet pride in ourselves after finishing a tough ride. It’s the shared excitement of watching someone else reach a goal they’ve worked hard for.

Some of my most meaningful memories are not from my own personal accomplishments but rather from watching others reach a goal they’ve worked so hard for. I’ve cheered as people were able to conquer their fear of getting on a bike, mastering a new skill on the trail, reaching a new milestone in their endurance or competing in their first race. This sport has become even more fun as I’ve forgotten about my own ambitions and learned to cheer for others, swap stories, laugh at mistakes, and realize that there are others who share a common ambition to simply find joy on 2 wheels.
After all, at its core this community is about finding joy on a bike—and sharing that joy with others.

For many riders, the mountain bike community becomes a thread that connects them to others. It’s the experience of gaining friends who may live miles away, but we still find a way to reconnect. The familiar faces that reappear season after season. Events and group rides become moments to reunite—places where stories pick up right where they left off, and new memories are made alongside old ones. These moments remind us that we can find community beyond where we live.

At ICUP, we feel deeply honored to play a small role in this larger story. Our races are designed to be welcoming spaces—places where first-time racers feel supported and returning riders feel right at home. ICUP races are simply one of many ways the community comes together to celebrate effort, growth, and shared passion. At ICUP we are grateful to put on an event that helps create a place for connection, encouragement, and reunion.

If you’ve ever wondered whether you belong in the mountain bike community, the answer is simple: Yes, you do.

You don’t need a certain level of fitness, experience, or gear. All you need to belong is your curiosity, your effort, and your encouragement towards others. Every rider adds something meaningful, whether they realize it or not. It’s important to realize that the mountain bike community is bigger than any one ride, race, or series. It’s the shared pursuit of adventure, connection, and joy. And it’s always better when there’s one more rider along for the journey. Now is your time to become that One More Rider!
